Bands Play to Ovation at Spring Concert
Congratulations to the Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band on a great concert on May 3. The Jazz Band opened with "Fly Me To the Moon," featuring Kristen Voss, alto sax. "St. Thomas" featured Eric Mendelson, clarinet, Lizzie Roberds, marimba, Justin Kretzer, guitar, and Josh Link, drums. "How High the Moon" followed, featuring Josh Link, vibes, Brandon Kane, trumpet, Justin Kretzer, guitar, and Christian Frauenhoffer, trumpet. Keenan Schott, drums was featured on an uptempo version of "Sing, Sing, Sing," along with Michael Chandler, trumpet.
The Concert Band presented a packed program. "March and Procession of Bacchus" is an orchestral transcription by Leo Delibes featuring a trumpet fanfare. "Highlights from My Fair Lady" was next, and proved to be a challenging and rewarding arrangement by Robert Russell Bennett. "Overture!" by Douglas Wagner featured excerpts from many famous opera overtures.
The Symphonic Band closed the program. "Highlights from The Wizard of Oz" featured Brock Scoville, horn, Sam Groeteke, bassoon, Jenna Polsgrove, piccolo, and Ben Roberds, tuba. Tommy Stava, Michael Chandler, and Kylan Morris were the featured trumpeters on "Bugler's Holiday." Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait" rounded out the afternoon. Soloists included Laura James, flute, Tommy Stava, trumpet, Sam Groeteke, bassoon, Kristin Walker, clarinet, and Geddy Miller, trombone, and the narrators were Tori DePung, Kristen Voss, Michael Chandler, Elyse Carter, and Morgan Tarbox. Congratulations on a fine performance.
